Avid Diva 2
Avid Diva 2

Despite being our entry-level model, the Diva II shares the design philosophy and key elements of our more expensive designs. Far from being hamstrung by compromise as many ‘cost-down’ turntables are, Diva II has been engineered holistically – each part designed specifically to contribute to an overall performance which is quite simply remarkable both in value and absolute terms.

The foundation of the Diva II is an ultra rigid, one piece aluminium casting. The arm and platter are mounted to this using a sapphire bearing and tight clamping system. The Avid Diva II’s unique system of mechanical isolation efficiently channels unwanted vibrations away from both the record and platter into this rigid chassis.

Platter construction is MDF, the mat cork composite in common with the both Volvere and Sequel models. The use of this platter coupled with the softer surface material ensures an impedance miss-match with the record and, with the aid of the clamp, reduces unwanted vibrations entering the platter.

Isolating the main chassis is critical to maintain low coloration. We have employed a triple elastomer layer system using an incredibly effective tailored sorbothane compound as used in our Isolating Support Platform, giving optimum mechanical isolation of the playing surface, resulting in better information retrieval and resolution.

Although rare in affordable turntables, the benefits of an external power supply are hard to deny. We have equipped the Diva II with a purposed designed mains transformer and electronics to construct a supremely smooth and consistent rotational force. Feeding a powerful motor the resulting stability and the huge dynamic sound is instantly recognisable as Avid.

Avid Diva 2 SP
Avid Diva 2 SP

Whilst Diva II sets the bar undoubtedly high, the Diva II SP edition reveals a genuine insight into the performance standards of high-end audio. Approaching the illustrious Volvere model in absolute terms, this is no mere cosmetic makeover.

Control and precision in reproduction are of the very highest calibre; a benefit derived directly from the engineering effort applied to each and every turntable.

A machined aluminium platter is the first and most obvious step-up; the vibration absorbing properties working symbiotically with the chassis. Combined with our unique, low-density, self-lubricating bearing system, torsional vibration is all but eliminated.

Precision control of turntable speed is achieved with our Digital Signal processing engine. Variations in the mains supplies are ironed out to create a pure and abundant supply of power to the motor. This can be precisely and easily calibrated to achieve perfect platter speeds.

Motor noise, vibration and control are all improved with the 'twin belt' drive controlling platter dynamics and stability under load. The result? A smooth, yet dynamic sound quality, improved bass and treble definition.

Owners of the original Diva II model are welcome to upgrade their system with these additional refinements.

Avid Volvere

Many of the engineering innovations we have pioneered in our flagship, reference models are equally relevant to all our turntables.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the Volvere.

This latest generation incorporates our latest DSP signal-generating power supply, totally removing the vagaries of the mains power signal and allowing precise calibration of motor speed. Introduction of the new twin belt drive system and revised bearing has improved platter dynamics, yet further improving the sound quality.

Conceived as a belt drive, sprung subchassis design, Volvere is designed and built to the same precision engineering standards as the Acutus turntable. Bespoke versions of the unique clamping, stainless steel bearing and suspension systems have been developed and applied to this novel design.

External vibrations are dissipated by the unique AVID variable frequency suspension system, effectively isolating the entire system from extraneous influence – yet without the softening of dynamic response often allied to such systems.

Suspension dynamics are further improved in this latest version using revised lateral damping isolation bands and lastly but by no means least, a massive platter.

The result? Vibration caused by the stylus during playback is transmitted to the subchassis directly through the main bearing and not absorbed into the platter. The clarity and depth of the performance under reference listening tests is a testament to the attention to detail bestowed on the design and the manufacture.

Avid Volvere Sequel SP
Avid Volvere SP sort

Sequel is so much more than a step-up model from the Volvere. With a touch of high-end engineering finesse, the already robust chassis and structure benefit from a bespoke suspension system, bearing and platter.

Following our policy of continuous improvement, upgrades to power supply and motor which we developed for our Acutus Reference model have also been applied here, using the same principles of DSP signal generation to reduce vibration and allow fine calibration of motor speed. Additionally our new twin belt drive and revised bearing makes the improvement in sound quality instantly noticeable over the Volvere.

Building upon the strengths of the standard Volvere model, the presentation is dramatically focussed and paints a vividly realistic image of the recording.

Aside from the superlative audio performance, the Sequel is one of the more aesthetically pleasing models in the world of high-end turntables and a worthy centrepiece for any domestic hi-fi system.

Avid Acutus SP
Avid Acutus SP sort

Acutus turntable is radically different from current design theories. Designed from a clean sheet, leaving nothing unexplored or unresolved. Setting a standard of musical reproduction others aspire to achieve. In brief, this is a belt drive, sprung subchassis design and this is where similarity with other designs stops. On first appearance you can see there is something different and you would be right.

Vibration caused by the stylus during playback is transmitted to the subchassis directly through our newly revised unique single point bearing and not absorbed into the platter. This is achieved using a unique matting material and clamping system. External vibrations are isolated by a unique variable frequency suspension system, conveniently adjustable from above.

A purpose designed power supply, incorporating our latest DSP signal generation makes for accurate speed settings. This coupled to a unique hand made motor, 10 times more powerful than normally used, drives a massive 10Kg platter with our new twin belt drive system making for excellent speed stability and sonic pictures of sound.

Stunningly finished in Polished Chrome or Gold, this product is the natural choice of equipment for those who demand the best.

Avid Acutus Reference SP
Avid Acutus Reference SP sort

The product that launched the AVID brand, over a decade ago, onto the world hi-fi scene was the critically acclaimed Acutus turntable. For the many experts and enthusiasts who have subsequently lived with this turntable, it was the start of a journey to reconnect with their music collection. Time, however, marches onward and a decade is a long time in the life of an engineering company.

It was decided to lift the bar higher still – to apply the accumulated knowledge of a decade of customer feedback and lessons learned.

The resulting turntable is now available…the Acutus Reference. The Reference provides not just a subjective but an immediately obvious lowering of the noise floor; extension of both bass and treble responses and a significant dynamic improvement.

The sense of realism needs to be experienced to be appreciated – something which we are happy to arrange for you with our exclusive dealer network.

…So enough puff. What are the actual differences between the Acutus and the Acutus Reference?

The first, and perhaps the most influential, is the power supply. A full 1kVA is on tap. This supply, itself developed over three years is the most stable, linear supply we’ve ever experienced. The Advanced DSP control of the motor power is finely adjustable almost completely eliminating micro-vibrations from the motor unit.

The motor suspension has been fine-tuned and a new twin belt drive system has been employed to aid grip and control. A detailed understanding of the metallurgic requirements of moving components has resulted in the refinement of the bearing system to self-lubricate and spin freely, but eliminate unwanted movement.

The Acutus Reference is a rare jewel of precision engineering. The age old adage of ‘getting what you pay for’ is no more evident than in this superlative turntable.
