Rockport Technologies has added a new chapter to the annals of music reproduction history – destined to become the loudspeaker against which all others will be judged, the Arrakis completely transcends the boundaries of believability.
Equally arresting visually as it is sonically, the Arrakis’ uncluttered contours are as elegant as they are essential. The purposeful lack of cabinet discontinuities ensures a clean wavelaunch, free from destructive diffraction effects, while its advanced composites construction prevents sonic contribution of any kind from its enclosure.
At 900 pounds per channel, the cabinet is always at rest and presents an ideal platform for housing its custom, variable section thickness, carbon fiber composite cone drivers, yielding the lowest resolution floor available from any direct radiator loudspeaker. The enourmous surface area of the drivers, coupled with their pure pistonic behavior enables dynamic contrasts that are alarming in their realism.
The ports for the Arrakis are machined from 7 inch diameter aircraft grade aluminum alloy, and feature deeply radiused edges to prevent port turbulence. The port dimensions are carefully selected to ensure tactile, well delineated bass with maximum transient accuracy, while avoiding any of the distortion artifacts associated with excessive air velocity in the ports.
The bi-amplified Arrakis includes Rockport’s own custom , state-of-the-art, 24 dB per octave active crossover module. The unit is a true dual mono design with minimalist topology in order to maintain the absolute highest level of resolution in the system. Each channel has its own dedicated power supply and filter sections that utilize the finest components to provide frequency division between the 15 inch side firing woofers and the forward firing drive elements. The crossover module also has dual precision attenuators for precise level matching and optimum bass integration within the listening room.
In keeping with the elegant minimalist crossover architecture, the entire chassis for the active crossover is exquisitely diamond-machined from a single, solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. Apart from its aesthetic beauty, this construction also results in superior resonance control as well as RFI/EMI shielding.
The Arrakis comes standard with a unique new feature: musical realism sufficient to make you forget you’re listening to a loudspeaker. Every facet of the Arrakis has been designed to produce the most stunningly lifelike, natural presentation obtainable from a loudspeaker, and every opportunity has been seized to create a working masterpiece whose distinctive form is truly born of matchless function. Never before has one loudspeaker so seamlessly combined such contradictory elements as huge dynamic range and scale with intimacy and incomparable resolution – all without a vestige of compromise. For those looking for the definitive loudspeaker, your search has just ended.
